BALTIMORE, MD, March 5, 2025 – INFORMS, the world’s largest association for professionals and students in operations research (O.R.), AI, analytics and data science, proudly announces the three distinguished finalists for the 2025 UPS George D. Smith Prize. This prestigious award honors institutions that excel in preparing students for impactful careers in the rapidly evolving O.R., analytics and data science fields.
The finalists for the 2025 UPS Smith Prize are:
- Georgia Institute of Technology, Master of Science in Analytics
- National University of Singapore, Master of Science in Business Analytics
- University of Waterloo, Management Science and Engineering
The winner will be announced on Monday, April 7, at the 2025 INFORMS Analytics+ Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Named in honor of the late UPS Chief Executive Officer – a visionary leader who championed the role of operations researchers in industry – the UPS George D. Smith Prize strengthens ties between industry and academia. The Smith Prize recognizes academic departments or programs that demonstrate effective and innovative preparation of students for impactful careers. These graduates go on to tackle critical challenges in industry and drive smarter decisions that save lives, save money and solve problems.
More than 15 universities have previously won the UPS George D. Smith Prize, including University of South Carolina (2024), Purdue University (2023) and Eindhoven University of Technology (2022). A full list of all past recipients can be found here.
