INFORMS ANNOUNCES 6 FINALISTS FOR CORPORATE/GOVERNMENT PRIZE (May 3, 2001)

This is the 30th year that the prestigious competition has been held. The award is jointly sponsored by INFORMS and CPMS, the Practice Section of INFORMS.

The Edelman competition will take place all day on Monday, May 21 from 10:30 AM to 6:25 PM at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla San Diego, CA. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 22 at 9:15 AM.

The competition is being held at a new INFORMS conference, "Optimizing the Extended Enterprise in the New Economy," which takes place at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla from May 20 – 22. Information about the conference is online at http://www2.informs.org/Conf/Practice2001/

The six finalists for the INFORMS Edelman Award are:

The INFORMS Edelman Award recognizes outstanding implemented work that has had a significant, positive impact on the performance of the client organization. The top finalist receives a $10,000 first prize. Runner-ups receive $1,000 prizes. All the finalist papers will be published in the January 2002 issue of the INFORMS publication Interfaces.

Past winners of the INFORMS Edelman Award include American Airlines, IBM; AT&T; Sabre Technology and SNCF, the French national railroad.; aviation publisher Jeppesen Sanderson; the Chilean forest industries group Bosques Arauco S.A.; Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), the federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program; and Yale University and the New Haven Health Department’s AIDS Division.
